Birlingham

The walk starts from in front of the Church of St. James the Great in the centre of Birlingham. At the south end of the triangle in front of the church a footpath heads west across the fields. We flow the path across the field and across the bottom of a large garden. Then the path deviates from the original footpath (which crosses the field) to skirt the field south and then west where the route joins a farm track. We follow the track to the Eckington road, where we turn right and walk along the road for a short while. We pass a road turning on the right, and then at the point where the road turns to the left a path leads eastward back towards the centre of the village. We follow this path. As the path reaches some houses there is a well marked dogleg deviation to the right around a courtyard. Continuing in the same direction the path goes through a small copse to the road. We follow the road south into the centre of the village, turning left just before we reach our starting point. We head along Church Street past The Swan Inn and just out of the village. As the road turns left we leave the road heading south along a farm track towards Hall Farm Barns. Just before reaching the barns, we turn onto a westward leading path that skirts around the north of farm. On the far side of the farm the path joins Whitehall Lane, and we follow this lane back into the village. The route finishes with us back in front of the church at the centre of the village.
